N.A.T. and Signalion present (world’s first) µTCA scalable MIMO solution for LTE and LTE-A

Germany based N.A.T. and Signalion present at the Advanced TCA Summit the world’s first µTCA system that consists of scalable computing and scalable RF processing power. N.A.T.’s unique MCH enables the communication between a scalable cluster of digital processing power and a scalable cluster of Signalion’s AMC-SRRM RF cards.

The µTCA backplane concept has got several advantages over other technologies such as PXI due to its extremely high backplane bandwidth. The novel concept of N.A.T.’s MCH provides for the necessary bandwidth to combine both scalable digital signal processing power as well as scalable RF processing power for MIMO up to 8 RF channels and beyond.

“Our proven AMC-SRRM AMC radio card is designed for scalable MIMO RF processing with 8 and more radio channels that are required for beamforming in LTE and LTE-A. Signalion and N.A.T. developed a concept realized in the novel MCH by N.A.T. that particularly simplifies the integration of MIMO systems for LTE and LTE-A”, says Signalion’s product manager René Nüßgen.

“By offering now SFP+ interfaces to provide CPRI and customized protocols, the NAT-MCH enables µTCA for applications where the standard protocols such as PCIe and SRIo reach their limitations. These new features are realized via a FPGA based infrastructure resource on the HUB module. Together with the SRRM card of Signalion, N.A.T. provides a Software Defined Radio platform for applications such as LTE”, says Heiko Körte, Sales and Marketing Director of N.A.T..
